Details and Condition:: Arne Jacobsen Floor Lamp designed for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen and manufactured by Louis Poulsen. The AJ floor lamp has a heavy base with a circular cut, which was originally designed to hold an ashtray. The AJ series of lamps is the perfect expression of Jacobsen’s purist design mindset. Designed in 1960 for the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, Copenhagen, formally known as the SAS Royal Hotel, the asymmetric conical shape of the fixture head clearly delineates the direction of the light. Arne Jacobsen was educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and as designer he made prototypes for furniture, textiles, wallpaper, silverware etc. Among his most famous designs are the Egg and the Swan Chairs.
